NHL Playoffs are here! I love this time of year. A frenetic energy fills the air. The intensity, battles in the corners for pucks, checking, skating, goaltending – EVERYTHING is elevated to a higher level, and it’s AWESOME.
By now, the first round is nearly completed. My Rangers have advanced (Yay!) and will face either the Caps (with Ovi!) or the Islanders. Caps & Islanders are tied 3 games a piece, with the deciding game scheduled for Monday. I think it will be an edge-of-your-seat game.
Sadly, my Canucks lost to the Flames tonight, and so won't advance to the next round. The Flames will go on to plan the Ducks. Although the Flames have a lot of young talent, I think the Ducks will take the series.
In other series...
The Blackhawks beat the Predators today so they will advance to the next round. My faves on that team include Sharp and Kane.
Today, the Wild won their series against the Blues. And right now, (really, the game just started!) Montreal has a chance to win their series against Ottawa. I'd like to see the Habs win.
Tomorrow, the Red Wings have a chance to close out their series against the Lightning. I'd expected the Lightning to win this series, but they are down two games to three.
A former Flyers coach once said, "The more games you win at the beginning of a season, the less you have to win at the end." Very true. Now is the time when all teams will play with a sense of urgency and desperation. I so love "playoff hockey".
And speaking of urgency...
Last season, the Rangers made it all the way to the Cup finals, but didn't take the Cup home. This year, they are determined to win it all. Google the hashtag #ChangeTheEnding.
Hard work, dedication, and a couple of lucky bounces of the puck can make the difference between winning and losing.
Anything is possible. And that's what makes the playoffs so much fun.
