Author Moments & Inspiration - A Romance Writers Weekly Post

May 26, 2015

This week's blog hop question comes from Jeanne McDonald - 1. Describe that moment you first felt like a true author (not just an aspiring one). 2. Name three authors who you inspire you. 3. Describe your favorite fan moment (either you as the fan or one of your readers approaching you as a fan).

Victoria Barbour was the previous stop on the blog hop. Be sure to check out her post if you missed it.

Describe that moment you first felt like a true author (not just an aspiring one).

For me, the moment I first felt like a real author was when I saw my first book live on Amazon for the first time. Up until then, even with signing the contract, and going through rounds of revisions, it still didn't seem "real" to me. Probably because I'd heard horror stories of books being pulled, or other things going wrong. But the day I saw my book live and for sale, it really hit home that I'd accomplished something that I'd dreamt of doing for so long.

Name three authors who you inspire you.

There are so many other authors who could be listed here, and if I listed them all I'd have a never-ending post. :-) So here are three who inspire me by what they write.

1. Nora Roberts. I absolutely love the way she writes. The description, the emotion, the characters, word choice, turns of phrase. Phenomenal. She truly is a master of her craft.

2. Skye Jordan. I adore her Renegades series. She writes memorable characters and the way the guys interact with each other is awesome and very real.

3. Carly Phillips. Her Dare to Love series is one of my favorites. I love the premise of the two families and how the siblings interact with each other.

These women are incredibly hard-working, and incredibly kind to their fans. No matter how successful you are, people will remember you for the way you made them feel. That's a good thing to remember and to always make you strive to be your best.

Describe your favorite fan moment (either you as the fan or one of your readers approaching you as a fan).

My favorite fan moment, as an author, so far, was when a reader approached me at a book signing and told me how much she loved my book. I'd had family and friends tell me how much they'd loved it too, but this was the first time it happened when I didn't know the person, so I knew she wasn't under any familial or friendship obligation. It totally made my day. :-)

My favorite fan moment as a reader was the first time I met Nora. I was nervous while waiting in line, because I had loved her books so much and I didn't want anything to sour the experience or my opinion. But Nora couldn't have been kinder. She went out of her way to make every person feel special and valued. Gracious, elegant, and as lovely a person as I had hoped she would be.

Up next, please follow me over to Dani Jace to find out about her author moments and inspiration.

Until next time, Happy Reading :-)
